Airports Authority of Jamaica (AAJ) is an independent statutory body, with ownership and management oversight of the Ian Fleming International Airport (St Mary), Negril Aerodrome (Hanover), Ken Jones Aerodrome (Portland) and Tinson Pen Aerodrome (Kingston). Its mandate is to develop and operate a safe and secure airport system for Jamaica.
The AAJ currently has employment opportunities for suitable qualified persons for the position of Airport Protection Assistant Grade 2 at the Ian Fleming International Airport, Negril and Tinson Pen Aerodromes.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
• 5 CXC/GCE O’levels, including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject
• Working knowledge of civil aircraft, fire safety, emergency response and fire protection and fire-fighting equipment and techniques
• Eighteen (18) months’ work experience preferably in a life safety, firefighting/prevention unit of an industrial organization
• Be the holder of an open Public Passenger Vehicle (PPV)/Commercial Motor Carrier (CMC) general driver’s licence with specialized manual dexterity and practical skills
• Skills in vehicle maintenance would be an asset
• Be able bodied and between the ages of 18 and 30 years and a minimum height of 5’ 7”
• Possess a clean Police Record
Scope of Responsibility
After an initial six (6) months period of training, the successful candidate will, among other things, be expected to respond to aircraft emergencies and structural fires at the Aerodromes and its environs; provide emergency and first aid care at the Aerodromes; provide Aerodrome operations and safety functions and other related and preventative duties.
Airport Protection Assistants must be physically able to perform their duties while wearing personal protective equipment; must demonstrate physical endurance and agility in performing hazardous tasks under emergency conditions, and think and act judiciously in emergencies.
Note: Despite the required qualifications shown above, each applicant must pass a prescribed Entrance Examination (written, physical fitness, medical, and background check).
